Keeping Your Head Above Water

A couple of months ago, I read an awful story of a woman being raped three times during her lifetime — each time more gruesome. This week, for some reason, that story came to me once again. For reasons unknown to me, I could not get her out of my head. Upon reflection, what resonated most with me was her resilience. Though she had been raped thrice, all by persons whom she knew personally, it did not damper her spirit. She decided to tell her story as a result, to assist other women who had gone through a similar ordeal. She has found Religion and now believes that God has a greater purpose in store for her.

Truthfully, we all go through our battles in life. Some we overcome easily, while others, not so much. I remember a particularly low period of my life when it all seemed unbearable. I thought I would not have made it out, but I did. I did. I may have been a bit too young to realize but what I was going through was just the motions of life. It is scientifically and logically impossible to be happy all the time. But while you can not be happy all the time, you can choose to be optimistic:

  • Optimistic that life will not get you down.
  • Optimistic that you will overcome.
  • Optimistic that you will get your head above the water and breathe.

I chose to be optimistic which is why I am here.

“Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it.” — Charles R. Swindoll. It may sound Cliche, but tough times don’t last but, tough people, do. You have to train your mind to be strong enough to face any battle and to (eventually) WIN because deep down, you know you are way stronger than you give yourself credit. Deep down, you know you are an overcomer. Deep down, you know you are a success story. So why not act like it?

2020 has proven to be a rough year for more reasons than one. Many persons have died, but you’re still here. Your purpose still burns within you, waiting to brighten the world. Your success still lies within you, waiting to penetrate the ears of the many who need it.

Whatever you are going through, whatever you will go through, know that you will overcome and keep your head above the water. Gone are the days when we would wallow and feel sorry for ourselves. NOW, we take action. Now we face our problems and pain head-on and scare IT away instead. Nothing lasts forever. You’ll be okay. In whatever you do or go through, believe that your feelings are valid and that in due time it’ll all be well. Remember, tough times don’t last, but people do.
